The Integrated Social Laboratory of the Postgraduate School at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta is conducting a Research Methodology Workshop to assist students in their research endeavors. This workshop spans two days, from Monday (March 20, 2023) to Tuesday (March 21, 2023), and is taking place at UNS Inn.
During the workshop, students are honing their knowledge of research methodology. They are being trained in two research methodologies: social network analysis and advanced health promotion. These topics are being provided to aid postgraduate students pursuing Master's and Ph.D. degrees in completing their theses and dissertations. Sulistyani Prabu Aji, a lecturer in the Master's and Ph.D. Program in Community Development and Empowerment (PPPM) at UNS, shared this information on uns.ac.id.
"This workshop is organized to assist Master's and Ph.D. students in completing their theses and dissertations," he said.
The event was opened by Haryati Saptaningntyas, S.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Dwiningtyas Padmaningrum, S.P., M.Si. The first topic was presented by Dr. Didik Haryadi Santoso S.Kom.I., M.A., a lecturer in the Communication Science Program at Mercubuana University Yogyakarta. He discussed the topic of "Social Network Analysis (SNA)." During this session, Dr. Didik divided the training into two parts.
The first session covered the introduction to SNA, concepts, terminology in SNA, and data analysis (case study). He also provided examples of SNA research. The second session gave participants the opportunity to practice SNA in a simple and independent or group setting. The application was done using SNA software in social science research.
SNA itself is a research method that focuses on understanding relationships and providing individual information or results. This method is used to investigate social structures through networks. SNA can analyze various aspects in terms of time and dimension.
"SNA serves as a data collection and data analysis tool for relational data within networks," said Dr. Didik.
The second topic was presented by Sujarwoto, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D., a lecturer in the Public Administration Program at Brawijaya University (UB) in Malang. He discussed the topic of "Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) in Global Health Research." In this session, Sujarwoto introduced CEI to the students. Additionally, he discussed research design, implementation, adaptation, governance, and accountability in CEI.
Sujarwoto explained the term CEI, which refers to Patient and Public Involvement (PPI). Both terms are used to describe how the voices of the public can be heard in research and are committed to promoting inclusion. The term community involvement encompasses the entire spectrum and level of partnership with the community. For the global health research portfolio, CEI is a mandate and core value.
