Three students from the Chemical Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta, accomplished a remarkable achievement, who secured 1st place in the National Scientific Paper Competition (LKTIN). The three students are Kalimaya Qolbi Sani, Nur Sayekti, and Sabela Sanata Ramadhani.
This competition was organized by the Geodetic Engineering Student Association of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) in Yogyakarta from March 16 to 18, 2023. One of the innovations they presented was the development of shampoo made from celery and lemongrass extract.
Maya, the nickname of Kalimaya Qolbi Sani, explained that this shampoo was formulated specifically to address hair loss and dandruff issues. Celery and lemongrass extracts contain active compounds such as citronellal, citronellol, and geraniol, which can combat dandruff. Additionally, celery's active compounds like limonene and vitamins A and C can prevent hair loss.
This success earned Maya and her team 1st place, surpassing 80 competing teams from various universities in Indonesia. When their 1st place win was announced, they expressed no expectations beforehand.
Maya said, "Honestly, we didn't expect to win 1st place because the other finalists' performances were also exceptional and impressive. So, when we heard the announcement that we had won 1st place, it was a surprise, and we couldn't believe it. Of course, we are also grateful for being able to bring prestige to UNS in this prestigious and highly competitive competition."
With this achievement, the students, currently in their 6th semester, hope to continue developing their ideas and innovations for even better scientific papers in the future. Their goal is to continue bringing honor to the name of UNS in various national scientific paper competitions.
