UNS - The Community Service Team of the D3 Library Program at the School of Vocational Studies (SV) of Sebelas Maret University (UNS) in Surakarta conducted a community service activity involving the dissemination and training on "Improving the Quality of Digital Information Sources for Librarians and Elementary School Teachers through an Electronic Directory in the Ngargoyoso Subdistrict." This activity was carried out in the Education Sub-District of Ngargoyoso, Karanganyar, and involved elementary school teachers and librarians from the Ngargoyoso Subdistrict.
The dissemination and training on Digital Information Retrieval in the Ngargoyoso Subdistrict, Karanganyar, took place on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, covering three library-related topics. The first topic, "The Importance of School Libraries," was presented by Rahmat Setiawan Saefullah S.S, M.I.Kom., who is not only a lecturer but also the Head of the D3 Library Program at SV UNS. The second topic, "Identification of Information Material Needs," was presented by Siti Nurkamilah S.IP., M.IP., and the third topic, "Information Retrieval Process," was given by Katrin Setio Devi, M.Hum., both of whom are also lecturers in the D3 Library Program at Vocational School UNS.
According to the Community Service Research Group Chair for Media, Information, and Libraries, Rr. Iridayanti Kurniasih, S.Hum., M.IP., this activity aims to enhance the quality of information, especially in elementary school libraries.
"The disparity in technological development and the lack of information quality are strong reasons for implementing the Community Service Program through the UNS Research Group Grant (PKM HGR) from the Media, Information, and Library Research Group. The Community Service Team also collaborated with partners from the Education Sub-District of Ngargoyoso Karanganyar, led by Mr. Sugeng S.Pd., M.H.," explained Iridayanti.
This activity is not a one-time event but will be conducted continuously.
"This community service activity is not a one-time effort; after the first activity is completed, the community service will continue with the next activity, which is planned to be held in August. The result of this community service activity will be a product in the form of an electronic directory," she emphasized.
Participants in this dissemination and training on library-related topics were not only provided with theoretical knowledge. Still, they were also given hands-on experience on how to search for quality information using various types of databases, such as Google Scholar, the Garuda portal, the Ministry of Education and Culture's website, and others.
