The Alas Bromo area, located in Karanganyar Regency, is a Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) for Forestry Education and Training. Currently, Alas Bromo is managed by Sebelas Maret University through the Forestry Education and Training Technical Implementation Unit (UPT PPK UNS). In managing Alas Bromo, which is a production forest with an area of 126.291 hectares, UPT PPK UNS no longer views the forest as solely for timber production, but has developed the forest area for multiple sectors, although the main function of the forest as an environmental buffer remains a top priority.

One of the efforts to develop Alas Bromo towards multi-sectors is by combining the arts and culture sector with education in the environmental locus, one of which is through the Bromo Culture Festival.

The Bromo Culture Festival 2024 is an event for artistic and cultural creation, featuring competitions in Reog culture, acoustics, and also providing a platform for MSMEs. In its third implementation, the Bromo Culture Festival is also part of the 48th Anniversary of UNS, involving the academic community of students, education staff, educators, and the community around the Alas Bromo area. This also proves that UNS has a concern not only for the environment through the management of Alas Bromo, but also for cultural conservation, particularly Reog and other arts. Reog performances have been held in the Bromo Culture Festival three times. In the previous two years, in addition to Reog Dadak Merak (Reog Pakem), "Reog Kreasi" or Jaran Kepang were also performed.

The Bromo Culture Festival 2024 was held for two days, on June 8th and 9th, 2024. On the first day, a high school-level acoustic competition was held, with 12 bands participating. On the second day, a Reog Pakem (Dadak Merak) performance was held, with participants from across the nation and 12 Reog groups registered. The Reog Dadak Merak groups that performed had gone through a professional selection process conducted by Reog practitioners and academics, based on the assessment of Wiraga, Wirama, Wirasa, and Wirupa.

The peak of the Bromo Culture Festival 2024 was marked by the opening of the Reog Art Performance, inaugurated by the Acting Rector of Sebelas Maret University Surakarta, Dr. Chaterina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.Hum., and a speech from the Acting Regent of Karanganyar, Mr. Timotius Suryado, S.Sos., M.Si., on Sunday, June 9th, 2024. The Reog Art Performance specifically competed for the Rector's Rotating Trophy. Winners of the Reog and Acoustic competitions received coaching funds to stimulate the continuous existence of these art forms.

The results of the Bromo Culture Festival 2024 competition for the high school-level Acoustic category, based on the jury's assessment, are as follows:

• 1st Place: Yo Ban from SMA Warga Surakarta
• 2nd Place: Melodia from SMA Negeri 2 Sragen
• 3rd Place: Baticoustik 1 from SMK Batik 1 Surakarta

For the Reog Art Performance category, based on the jury's assessment, the results are as follows:

• 1st Place: Singo Bedjho Gumelar from Surakarta
• 2nd Place: UKM PSRM Watoe Dhakon from IAIN Ponorogo
• 3rd Place: PSRM Simo Budhi Utomo from Unmuh Ponorogo
